My Grandfather worked at the Steel Works, He joined the army & it is said he went to the Port of Dunkirk, where he operated a crain, loading & unloading Armiments. Could this be tru?

Most likely (from the limited information), would probably be the “527th Territorial Field Company” (Royal Engineers). Attached to the 5th Division, 2nd Durham Battalion.

In WW1, many Territorial Field Companies were allotted to serve right alongside regular Divisions once the draft began…

…That might be the best place for you to begin your search, given that you “specify” that you Grandfather was operating machinery, cranes etc.

The Royal Engineers is where I’d start personally m8!!

There was also the well known “Durham Light Infantry” Regiment in WW1 too. You could look into them also.

A further suggestion. Visit the towns “War Memorial”. Undoubtedly on it will be the names of soldiers who fought in WW1, and their specific regiment!! That could give you some further insight.

Men’s Tribal Rings

Men from all walks of life are getting into the “tribal look”, and nowhere is this more noticeable than in current collections of men’s fashion rings.  Tribal rings are a fusion of symbolism and urban culture that give men a sense of belonging; not to a “tribe” per se, but to a more spiritual interpretation of masculinity.  Gone are the days when men were afraid to express their sense of mystery through jewelry.  The rising popularity of tribal rings is evidence of a move back to nature and a greater appreciation for native cultures.  Using ethnically-inspired symbols, geometric patterns, and organic textural elements in men’s jewelry is a growing trend that recalls the hieroglyphics of ancient Egypt, while maintaining a purely urban “edge”.

 

 

Why Has Men’s Fashion Gone “Tribal”?

 

 

When it comes to “urban tribal” fashions, some might say that it started among New York’s fashion elite, when designers Diane Von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs sent models down Fashion Week runways wearing chunky tribal jewelry and wild animal prints in unexpected colors.  While far less risqué in their appearance, men’s tribal rings fit right in with this style.
